THE VILLAGE

Stiffkey village is a pretty flint village on the coast road between Wells-next-the-Sea and Morston. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, it has remained unspoilt over the centuries with it's main claim to fame over the last century being the infamous Vicar of Stiffkey, who after being defrocked, lost his life to a lion in a circus.

Although a quiet village, Stiffkey has a friendly and characterful pub, The Red Lion that sells Woodforde's Ales, a Norfolk beer. It is within walking distance of Hawthorns and with it's log fires and family friendly menu (with a sea-food bias) it is at the heart of the village. Stiffkey Stores provides a useful range of everday goods, fresh bread and newspapers.

ALONG THE COAST

Heading East are the villages of Morston and Blakeney, both places where you can take a boat trip to visit Blakeney Point and the seal colony. This area is very popular with birdwatchers, walkers and sailers and with a good selection of pubs and restaurants, and the opportunity for catching crabs and paddling in the creeks, it is also a favourite with families. East of Blakeney is the village of Cley with tea-rooms, galleries, smoked fish shop and delicatessen. Cley Windmill, a local landmark, can be climbed and has fantastic views from the top.

Travelling West from Stiffkey is Wells-next-the-Sea, a good centre for shopping, and further West is Holkham with it's popular beach, palladium hall and country estate that is open to the public.
